Choosing a Culture The choice of which culture in which to locate your new character is probably the decision that will most affect your experience on the game. Some cultures, like The Shire, are primarily peaceful. Activity there will mostly involve politics, wealth, romance, or socializing. Other cultures, like Mordor, are centered around combat and violence. Deadly armies in the service of the Dark Lord train and clash weapons with their foes in an attempt to gain dominion over Middle-earth. But every culture has a range of available positions you can take. Most cultures have a webpage which contains a wealth of information about what the culture is like. Click on any of the links on our cultures webpage to visit that culture's homepage. Another thing to consider is the size of the culture. Some cultures on Elendor are less populated than others. Those cultures are the ones which will provide you with the most oppotunities for advancement and promotion. If your goal is to earn the privilege of playing your favorite character from the books, you might want to choose one of those. Other cultures are extremely populous. The advantage there is that there are a lot of players to interact with. (You can interact with players from other cultures than just your home culture, of course, but those players will usually be harder to find or get to.) Our cultures webpage contains a table of the latest activity and population statistics for all the various cultures on the game. Finally, even though your choice of culture will affect your experience, there's a lot to be said for just picking one and trying it out. You can always change your mind later if you decide there's something you don't like about your initial choice. So if you're not sure which culture to join, feel free to just pick the first one you see that looks interesting and follow the online instructions to join. |
