Connecting

Unless you're using Smial, which comes pre-configured to allow you to connect to Elendor, after you install and start up your new client program, you'll need to tell it how to connect to Elendor. If you're using Windows telnet, click here for specific instructions. Otherwise see the online help that comes with whatever program you're using to find out how to connect to a new game. (Sometimes the help will refer to this as "creating a new world" or "defining a new world.") When prompted, you will need to enter the following information:

Host: mush.elendor.net
Port: 1892

Some clients also allow you to enter a name and password for your character. For now, leave those fields blank. If you are asked what type of game you are connecting to, select "TinyMush". Any other information you're asked for will be arbitrary. It won't matter what you enter for it.

Once you finish entering the requested information, you'll be able to connect to your newly defined world. Do so, and you'll see the Elendor login screen. The login screen contains instructions on what to type to create a new character. In particular, you type the word "create" followed by the name you wish to use for your character, followed by a password. For example:

create Myname mypassword

Your name can be up to 16 letters long and can be any anything you choose, but don't try any name from the books because they're all either reserved or taken. You can change your name later anyway, so just pick something you don't think anyone else would already be using. Your password can be anything; just be sure it's something you'll remember.

After that point, you'll be logged into the game and you'll be at the beginning of the character creation sequence. That's where you choose a species, a culture, and make other customizations to your character. You'll get plenty of help from the online documentation and from other players at that point, but if you'd like to read about the various available cultures beforehand, click the link below to go to the next page.
